"An unmortified man is quickly tempted and overcome in small , trifling evils; his spirit is weak, in a measure carnal and inclined to sensual things; he can hardly abstain from earthy desires. " This is a quote from the book Imitation of Christ
What happens when we follow every desire… you still feel restless inside!
You know that feeling.
You gave in. Just a small thing.
A quick distraction. A harmless indulgence.
But afterward… there’s noise. Not peace.
This is the struggle of an unmortified heart.
It chases… and keeps chasing.
It tastes… but is never filled.
It says “just this once”… and then again… and again.
“Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.” --James 1:14
The unmortified man follows his passions
yet peace slips further away.
His spirit grows tired.
His desires grow louder.
Small things become chains.
But the mortified soul pauses, resists and waits.
Not because it is easy… but because it is worth it.
He chooses Christ over impulse.
Truth over feeling.
Silence over noise.
“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” -- Galatians 5:24
This soul finds something deeper.
A quiet strength.
A steady peace.
It looks at life differently and checks it's desires in the light of God’s Word.
Yes… it is difficult.
Dying to self always is.
But this dying… leads to life.
To freedom.
To clarity.
To real peace.
So today, in the small choices and in the unnoticed battles
may we resist.
may we pause.
may we choose Christ again.
