Not in the storm.
Not in the fall.
But in a wandering thought…
a drifting attention…
a heart that loosens its hold on God.
A ship without a rudder doesn’t choose danger.
It simply… drifts.
And the waves decide its direction.
So it is with us.
When the mind wanders,
when trust grows thin,
temptation finds space.
Not forced.
But welcomed… little by little.
“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.” -- James 1:14
It is subtle.
It is quiet.
It is real.
But here is the turning point
not later…
not when the storm is raging…
but at the beginning.
Resist early.
Gently, firmly.
Because delay gives strength to what should have died small.
Like a ship captain who sees dark clouds ahead and takes action,
adjust early,
turn quickly,
choose safety before chaos.
Because once the tempest grows,
the waves rise,
the ship weakens,
and the struggle becomes heavier.
Yet do not despair.
Temptation is not defeat.
It is a place of choosing.
A place of grace.
“God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape.” -- 1 Corinthians 10:13
So we pray.
Not casually.
But fervently.
Honestly.
Humbly.
Admitting our frailty.
And God… He saves.
He strengthens.
He lifts the lowly heart.
The saints understood this deeply.
They guarded the mind.
They mortified entirely.
They turned inward
not to themselves,
but to God within.
And in that quiet focus…
they found freedom in contemplation.
So today
when the first thought drifts,
when the first pull begins…
may we notice.
may we resist early.
may we turn quickly.
⚓️ And may we fix our hearts again on Him—
our true anchor in every storm.
